Do Good Tour Goes Virtual
National Life assists school with purchasing needed equipment.
In 2021, we planned to take our Do Good Tour to K-12 school campuses by merging it with the concept of a school supply drive. The goal was to support a handful of schools in strategic locations at the return of school in September as part of our back to school 403b strategy. As the pandemic impacted in-person learning, we pivoted to develop a pilot that would work well in a virtual world partnering with AdoptAClassroom.org to leverage their online fundraising program, we established a hybrid program that could support schools, support distribution, and function virtually.
Efforts progressed and we identified Matt Logan with Rise Capital Partners, as our strategic partner. Matt helped us identify our recipient Dr. Darelle Boyd, who teaches at the O’Bryant School of Science and Mathematics in Roxbury, MA. She was in need of high-quality headsets so that the English Language Learners at her school can access the same curriculum as the native English-speaking students.
Unfortunately, these headsets weren’t a part of the school’s general allotment of materials, so Dr. Boyd turned to the community for help.
National Life’s Retirement Services Team and the National Life Foundation each kicked in $500 for a total of $1,000 to jump start the fundraising. Dr. Boyd was able to purchase headsets for her students which just arrived at the school. This will afford her students the opportunity to practice their English skills, take the MCAS test, and graduate on time.
In addition to building out the strategy, the partnerships and executing the virtual fundraising event, National Life’s marketing team developed a robust kit of tools and resources the school and Matt can leverage to introduce the fundraiser to the community and keep the funds coming in.
This hybrid model of the Do Good Tour will allow Matt to continue to reengage with the school and the community to meet ongoing resource needs. In addition to building out the strategy, the partnerships and executing the virtual fundraising event, National Life’s marketing team developed a robust kit of tools and resources that both the school and Matt can leverage going forward. Since launching this at O’Bryant School of Science and Mathematics, Matt has been invited back to the school to assist with financial education for both the students and staff.
