Underwriting Vendor Impact Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

View this important update from Underwriting.

We continue to work closely with our vendors during this unprecedented time.  Each vendor has a robust business continuity plan that include pandemics and have rigorous safety procedures in place.  These groups are committed to the health and safety of our customers and their employees.

Underwriting leadership also continues to actively work on identifying and utilize optional solutions in these unchartered waters.  This information will continue to be shared as it becomes available. At this time a large number of services have been impacted in one way or another.

  • Primary impact has been to our exam service providers due to “shelter in place” orders or “hot spots”
  • Criminal Record Retrieval services are also seeing some delays due to court closures—states impacted are listed below
  • APS Retrievals may experience delay due to office closures and/or reduced staffing.  Large copy services remain operational.

Overall exam service operations continue to be challenged in certain localized areas.  Each state will be re-evaluated as the situation improves.

All exam services have been suspended in the following states:

  • New York City including the 5 Burroughs (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island) and Westchester County)
  • New Hampshire
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • APPS/Portamedic has also suspended exam services in the greater Cincinnati area.

For the most up to date information regarding exam service delays and closures in your area:

Pre-Cautionary measures to make clients aware of for examination services:

  • When scheduling, the examiner will assure and advise client they do not have any symptoms, been in close contact with someone who has nor have they recently travelled or had contact with anyone who has travelled within the last 14 days
  • They will also ask the same of the client.  If a client answers yes to any of the questions, the appointment or the scheduling of the appointment will be delayed automatically to 15 days by the exam company or the insurance company’s designated timeframe
  • The examiner will again ask the above questions when they  arrive for the appointment
  • During the appointment, the examiner will make every effort to stay at least 6 feet away while completing the exam
  • When the examiner needs to get closer in order to obtain measurements and draw blood, they will ask that neither party speak during that time in order to limit the chance of any droplets being transmitted.
CRIMINAL RECORD RETRIEVALS: These states have all been impacted by reduced staffing to closures with delays.
  • Due to court closures delays are also expected in the following states: AK,AL,AZ, CA, CO,CT, DC,DE,FL, GA,HI,IA,ID IL, IN,KS, KY,LA,MA, MD,ME, MI, MN,MO,MS,MT, NC,ND, NE,NH,NJ, NM,NY, NV, OH,OK,OR,PA,RI,SC,SD, TN, TX,UT,VA, VT,WA,WI,WV,WY
