Best Practices: Preparing your Customer for Paramed Exam and/or Labs

As a result of these Best Practices, exams will run smoothly, and results will be transmitted promptly.

Paramed exams and labs can be completed quickly if your customer is prepared for the visit.  These Best Practices will ensure exams are completed smoothly and results transmitted quickly.

During the Application Process

  • If exams/labs are needed due to the product, age of the customer and face amount being applied for, let your customer know exams/labs will be needed. This will help them be prepared for the call from the Paramedical examiner. Your Field Underwriting Guide will detail requirements by product.
  • If your customer will need in language support in order to complete the exam, you can indicate that on the Coverage Information section of the e-app. This information will be shared with the Paramedical company when NLG places the order.
  • Advise your customer to be prepared for a call from the Paramedical company within the next few days after the application has been submitted. Once the exam has been scheduled, a second call or text from the examiner usually occurs the day before to confirm the appointment.
    • Please note: If the appointment is not confirmed, it may be cancelled by the Paramed company as they will assume the customer does not want to move forward with the appointment.

During the Underwriting Process

  • Once the application has been submitted, the underwriter will begin reviewing the case while awaiting the results from the exam.
  • In some instances, an application that may not have needed an exam based on age and face, will require one to be completed based on medical history or underwriting review. It will be important for you to connect with your customer quickly to advise the requirement(s) are needed and to prepare for a call from Paramed company (usually within 24-48 hrs).
  • The Paramed/Lab history order is available on the Agent Portal and Mobile App. It is a good idea to review the history periodically to ensure that the exam is getting scheduled and completed timely.  In some cases you may need to connect with your customer to ensure the exam gets scheduled and completed.
