“Superhero” Is the Title Reserved for LifeChanger of the Year Award Recipient Alex Munoz of Boston!

LifeChanger of the Year is an annual program recognizing K-12 educators and school employees across the country.

In most people’s minds, superheroes are DC and Marvel comic book characters, but for students at Thomas A. Edison K8 School, “superhero” is something reserved for LifeChanger of the Year award recipient and Boston educator Alex Munoz.

Alex was presented with the award by Brandon Ortez, a Southern New England agent with ties to Boston. LifeChanger of the Year is an annual program recognizing K-12 educators and school employees across the country. We have recognized over 7,300 school employees from more than 2,000 school districts and awarded over $720,000 to schools and school employees since 2011.

“Being born and raised in Boston, graduating from Boston Public Schools and being able to present an award for LifeChanger of the Year to Alex, who is a Boston Public School alum and educator, made this a very special honor,” said Brandon.

“I was thrilled to take part in the surprise award ceremony. It was great to see all of Alex’s colleagues and students secretly fill the auditorium to celebrate his work and commitment to being an educator. Alex walked into what he thought was going to be a graduation rehearsal and was stunned after realizing that the applause, screams of happiness and cameras were all there to bare witness of his achievement.”

In a similar fashion to previous LifeChangers of the Year award winners, Alex’s impact on students extends beyond the classroom. In addition to his role as an applied behavior analyst, Alex also coaches a youth basketball team and facilitates before and after school programs all while providing guidance, support, and knowledge to help students learn and grow. Being a role model, teachers offer a unique opportunity to shape a child’s future. They can inspire curiosity and motivate students to strive for excellence. They also help children develop important skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication. For this and countless more reasons, we want to…thank you, Alex, for inspiring us and going above and beyond for your students!
